Mansel-Pleydell and Cecil competition essays

Roger Peers' centennial biography of J. C. Mansel-Pleydell includes (in Appendix 3) a brief and selective list of prizewinning essays, drawn from a catalogue held by the Mansel-Pleydell trustees, which, Peers says, was created by Eileen Dickson in 1999. The DNHAS library holds a typescript catalogue of 'Mansel-Pleydell competition prizewinners', with additions to c. 2006. This, though anonymous, must be an extended version of the earlier catalogue. (In March 2017, the latter catalogue was kept in a ring-binder labelled 'Dorset Subjects M-P' in case M of the DNHAS library, second shelf from bottom.) The list presented here was created by John Palmer in 2012, using the latter catalogue and other sources in the library. Since then he has made annual additions, using information from Ann Smith and Hilary Over, successive secretaries to the trustees, to whom he is much indebted. Prizes awarded in memory of C. D. Drew are also listed when known. Abbreviations and conventions are explained at the end.
