Dorset County Museum reserve collection (All Saints), 2015 onwards

The former church of All Saints, High East Street, Dorchester houses much of the archaeological collection of DORCM. Much of the space in this building is divided into bays, each bay containing several shelves. During the year 2015, the identifiers for each bay were changed. Previously, bay-identifiers were simple numbers; since 2015, they have been numbers preceded by L or U (for Lower or Upper floor). A complete mapping of old to new bay-identifiers is given below.

Many loc (location) entries contain bay-identifiers. Such entries are of three kinds:

1. If only a pre-2015 number is shown, the writer (JP) has only accessed the object (verified its presence at the location) before the numbering was changed.
2. Sometimes both old and new numbers are shown, for example 'bay 46(U52)'. In such cases, the writer has only accessed the object before the change of numbering, and the new bay-number (U52) has been deduced by referring to the mapping.
3. A post-2015 bay-number by itself, however, does imply that the writer has accessed the object since the changeover, and found it in the bay with that number.
