Blue Purbeck Marble at Peveril Point

A Purbeck Marble bed at Peveril Point, just below the old lookout shelter. Probably the so-called Blue Marble, DB244b, in spite of the colour shown here: the actual colour is variable, a reddish tinge from iron being common. The tilted beds are the PM, the horizontal stones above are part of a man-made structure (as may be seen from the mortar between them). Photo 2002.04:5.18, © John Palmer
